Rules and Procedures
The Rules and Procedures.

Situation.
Salvio Hexia is a high quality, character development driven Harry Potter Roleplay. It will span the Hogwarts-Era, and (eventually) Post-Hogwarts for a select number of students, children of those who would have gone to school with Harry Potter (and via the backstory community, things Pre-Hogwarts can be explored). They are the next generation. It will also allow players to experiment with Alternate-Universe type things. The game will involve a lot of writing and focus on character development.

On age, maturity, and explicit situations.
Maturity is a must. We do have an age restriction. We ask that rpers be seventeen or older, though exceptions may be made by the moderators. Please do be aware that sexual situations may arise, due to the nature of rpgs. Explicit situations should be marked with warnings above an lj-cut.

To slash or not to slash.
We are not anti-slash or anything of the sort, but Slash will be HIGHLY moderated, and should not take place among most characters at all in the game. Not all characters should be homosexual or bisexual, nor should a majority of them be so. In fact, in Pure-blood society, it's frowned upon. The VAST majority of characters should NOT be slashed. Especially among Pure-bloods, the idea is that males and females should be able to reproduce progeny of Pure bloodlines, a thing that's not exactly feasible for homosexual couples. Possibilities of slash can be explored in the AU community but shouldn't otherwise except for mild undertones.

Activity is a must.
This is crucial for this game. Yes, activity is a must. If you are looking at this game, and are interested, please don't join and not participate but once every two weeks. If we don't hear from you for a week, without knowing that something is going on, your spot(s) will be up for application.

Timing of the game.
This game takes place starting in 2020. The days will correspond in a one-to-one ratio, meaning that dates in 2008 will correspond, in game time, to dates in 2020. Thus, January 1, 2008 = January 1, 2020. This is to facilitate gameplay.

Communication is crucial.
Communication is crucial in this sort of game. Please be reachable via AIM or PM. Since this game is going to involve lots of development, players need to be able to contact one another and communicate.

Out of Character: be nice, be friendly, just be.
Be nice. Please try your best to be friendly, and try to get along. Drama should be kept in-character, not OOC. If you have a problem, try to work it out, or talk to the mod, but don't insult each other in the OOC community or any other community out-of-character.

Writing quality in the game.
Please be sure to use proper grammar and spelling. *ASTERISKS* will not be used here for in-character interactions. Try to avoid one-liner responses.

"Power play" and "god-modding."
Please don't "power play." Work out plotlines with other rpers if you want their characters to be involved in something. The bottom line is this: you control your own character, but not anyone else's.

Characters allowed in the game.
Only characters listed on our Character List will be cast. We ask that all players keep their character count down to two or three. This game is going to be very involved, also including the families (specifically, the parents) of your character(s) and we want all your characters to be actively engaged in it and developed to the fullest extent. If, however, you feel that you can handle more, talk to the mods, and we'll see what we can do to accommodate you.

Communities of the game.
[info]salvio_mods is the Moderator Journal. This is where you can find most of the community information in general. [info]salvio_pre is the Pre-Hogwarts community. [info]salvio_hexia is the present day. [info]salvio_au is the Alternate-Universe community, where AU scenarios and other possibilities can be considered. Logs and threads should be placed in the appropriate community. [info]salvio_ooc is the Out of Character (OOC) community.

To Friends-Lock or not to Friends-Lock.
Posts in all communities, EXCEPT [info]salvio_ooc should be public. Whether or not you want to keep your characters' journals as friends-locked or public is up to you, but we ask that you keep the IC posts public, as a courtesy to players who might want to use posts as roleplay samples for other games and such. Posts in the Out of Character (OOC) / Plotting Community, however, will be kept friends-locked, members only for players of Salvio Hexia.

NPCs and Owls Accounts.
[info]salvio_npcs is the Non-Playing Characters Account for this community. This is the journal to use if playing a character not specifically on our character slate. Here you can try your hand at someone new, play staff members, Ministry workers, merchants, Filch catching people out after hours, or professors and others. Journal entries should not be made in this journal, but the account should be used to post in the other communities (as appropriate, see above). The only posts in the journal itself will contain profiles of specific NPCs. See [info]salvio_npcs for more detailed instructions on using this feature for the game. Please be considerate and limit the uploading of icons for NPCs, because of the IJ limit on icons. Each character should only have one icon.
Similarly, [info]salvio_owls is the Owlpost Account for this community. This is the journal to use if sending an owl from someone not on our character list. Here you can use school owls, or send owls from your characters' families, or even try your hand at anonymous owls. Just like the NPC account, posts should not be made in this journal, but the account should be used to post in the other communities (as appropriate, see above). See [info]salvio_owls for more detailed instructions on using this feature for the game.
If you need the passwords for either account, please be sure to PM the moderators, at [info]salvio_mods, and they will be happy to provide you with access. The passwords are also listed on our Player Contact Information page, right under the Friends adder.

Journals for your characters.
Journals are a way to view the happenings of the rpg through the respective character's eyes. The journals should be written in first person, and if appropriate, marked as private, or hexed for only certain people to see. Journals are not some kind of "new fad;" they have been around virtually forever and the students have been keeping them since First Year. Entries should all include an HP-world date at the top of the entry. Don't backdate entries because then they won't show up on our friends pages. Strikeouts aren't readable in character unless players have talked it over. Anything marked 'slightly legible' or something of the sort can be read depending on the circumstance. Talk to each other to work things out if you're not sure!

Credit as appropriate.
Credit is necessary for all things. Credit icons and layouts as well if you got them from someone else. Also please be sure to include a disclaimer on your character journal(s). On that note, anything from the Harry Potter universe is the property of J.K. Rowling, Bloomsbury, Scholastic, EA Games, Warner Bros, et. al. No profit is being made from this game, and it is merely a roleplay game for fun and character development.
